Resistance

This image expresses the struggle between belonging and freedom. It is one of a series of images reflecting the myth of the Selkie. Selkies are mythological creatures capable of transforming from a seal to human form by shedding their skins. The tale describes a female selkie coerced into a relationship with a human who then hides the selkie's skin to prevent her from returning to the sea in her seal form. In this image (and series), the selkie's sister takes human form to try to rescue the unrelenting sister.
